Rochdale Tennis Club has five outdoor floodlit artificial grass courts, ensuring that the members can enjoy tennis all year round. Changing rooms and shower facilities are located on site. All our members automatically become Associate Members of neighbouring Bamford Fieldhouse Cricket Club. This entitles tennis members to access the luxurious bar facilities and to discounted rates for hire of the function room.
Rochdale Tennis Club has origins dating back to the 1880s. On its first site in Rochdale, in the1890s, the club consisted of three plain grass courts and a wooden pavilion.
In previous times the club has also been known as Rochdale Lawn Tennis Club, Rochdale Racquets Club and Rochdale Racquets Tennis Club. Badminton, croquet, table-tennis and squash have all been played at the club at different stages in its long history.
Until 1999 the club was located at Beechwood (off Manchester Road) where there were grass, shale and later hard courts. The members enjoyed a large clubhouse with bar facilities.
The club relocated to its present home at Hollin Lane in 1999. RTC has five floodlit all-weather artificial grass courts.
Rochdale Tennis Club maintains a significant amount of old documentation from the club's past. The committee would welcome any member with some time on their hands who might be interested in a history project!
The Committee at Rochdale Tennis Club is responsible for the running of the club and facilities. The club is run on an entirely voluntary basis and so depends on the energy and enthusiasm of its members. Our enthusiastic and dedicated Committee consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Welfare Officer as well as general members. The Committee welcomes any help from members - as much or as little as you are able to give.
